Substitution

The most common solution to obsolescence is substitution and involves substituting similar items for those no longer available. Substitution requires a formal engineering evaluation and in many cases serves as a long-term solution. Commercial-Grade Dedication (CGD) is a common form of substitution in which a dedicated part is supplied in place of a part that was once available safety-related from the OEM. This solution provides simplicity, reliability and a dependable source for future supply.

The cost of evaluating substitutions is defrayed by sharing solutions through Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Nuclear Group's Obsolete Item Replacement Database (OIRD).

Curtiss-Wright Flow Control has qualified thousands of commercial – grade equivalent parts satisfying the same form, fit and function of the original parts. Experienced engineers and industry experts are skilled in determining qualification and testing requirements, and preparing packages to simplify the equivalency evaluation process for site personnel on products covering nearly every plant need.
